Check to ensure the college is accredited by a legitimate accrediting agency. Accreditation means the college and its programs meet certain set educational quality and standards. This also means courses and credits acquired can be easily transferred to another accredited institution, whether online or brick and mortar college. You will stand a better chance of securing employment or promotion at work if you have an accredited degree.

Be on the look-out for unaccredited online distance education colleges otherwise known as “degree mills”. There are many fake institutions granting “accreditation” to any organization willing to pay some money for it. Before you pick your college, make sure you research that it is accredited by a legit body. If you are not sure the college you wish to attend has a legitimate accreditation, consult with the United States Department of Education or CHEA to confirm.

Before you choose an online college, it’s also important to think about what your long-terms plans and goals are as far as your education is concerned. Incase you intend to pursue further education, think about if you’ll need to transfer credits from one college to another. With this knowledge you’ll be able to choose a college that allows and accepts credit transfers.

Class size plays a big role in an online distance education college as it does in a traditional classroom. The smaller the better, thus you should investigate the class size of the institution you wish to join.

It good to know more about the instructors of the programs you are interested in. Are they qualified to teach that class? Do they have experience in their field or specialization? Have they taught online classes before? How long have they been teaching? Get the answers to these questions. It is more reassuring if more instructors hold degrees from the college that you’re planning to enroll.

Support is very important to your success of online distance education program. Make sure you find if any and what level of support you will get from instructors, faculty and technical staff should you have problems with your classes or experience technical difficulties. Select a college that meets your standards of expectations.

One of the great things about online distance education programs is that you can begin almost anytime. Thus you shouldn’t let anyone rush you into starting your program until you feel ready to put the time and effort it will require for you to succeed.

Check out if your program will be offered entirely online or if it will require residency at some point in the course. Some online courses have site projects and require residency so let this not come as a surprise to you.

Most online colleges offer financial aid and tuition assistance. You’ll be pleased to discover how much financial help you have available inform of loans, scholarships, financial aid and other federal loans. Some institutions even have tuition payment plans and employer-reimbursement programs. Find out if your college of interest offers such programs.

Take your time to research your best degree option and college out there. Don’t settle for less than you deserve. Unlike there before when online programs were limited, now there are enormous options and colleges to choose from as most traditional colleges are already offering some programs online.

It’s truly said that

“Children are like a pot of flower. If we’ll give them proper attention, they’ll grow up, but if we’ll give them either lack of attention or extra attention, they’ll be damaged”

(Munir M Sewani)

Remember that every student trust their teachers very much. They have lots of expectation from us. Being a teacher, it’s wise to be loyal and dedicated towards our profession.

Love them, care them, listen to them and treat them like you own child.

Always remember that children are very sensitive, so treat them with gentle love.

They notice each and every thing in us; from our dress to our gestures, so always be prepared for every thing.

Children usually ask us many questions and some times we don’t know the answer of few questions. At that moment, just try to be loyal and tell your students that you’ll search it and will tell them tomorrow or day after. In this way you’ll not only gain trust and confidence from your students side, but there will be a strong bond of relation on both the sides too.

Always try to interact with students and never stop them to share their views and ideas. Their ideas might be more resourceful and worthful for us.

Never insult any student in front of other students. They might develop a sense of phobia in their mind and it’ll stop their creativity to further enhance.

It’s the foremost duty of every teacher to have a communication with the parents of your students too. It’ll help you to understand your students from all the dimensions.

Always Pre-Plan your lesson plan before going to class.

You are a teacher, so have confidence to face every challenges in your life.

Be a role model for your students.

Do have positive gestures on your face all the time.

Select the leader of your class every week that can help you in handling things etc. This activity will help your students to build their confidence, moreover, try to find out those children in your class who are introversive and make some resourceful plan to activate them in every class activities.

These are some basic tips, which I have shared from my experience. This article is the beginning of the journey. There are thousands of more tips, which would be shared soon. Till then Byez

You feel your current status in your work area is taking you absolutely no where some people choose to get some type of distance education by the use of the Internet. However, in some areas this isn’t possible for the simple fact that most of these distance educations are somehow connected to local community colleges or vocational schools as well.

Although in some states, there are ways of going through college courses by the use of the Internet but designed as distance education for the simple procedure that it isn’t some big state college usually.

They are considered local or under a government program however completely legitimate in obtaining a degree on the Internet. Some people are capable of getting assistance to further their learning with distance education programs while others pay monthly installments after a small initial fee to begin your distance education. This also depends on what it is you plan on taking as far as courses and how long you plan to take. Some colleges offer distance education programs and courses for 12, 18, and 36 months. Whichever one you choose is ultimately up to you in most cases, however there are exceptions to some of the courses. Meaning, in some courses the time frame may be limited to a certain period of time for the distance education, while others may be offered for longer periods of time, or you can receive extensions on your distance education courses.

This of course all depends once again, on which college you choose to go through. When searching for the right college on the Internet you don’t have to go with the first college you see in the search results. Do some reading and compare a few, to see which offers the distance education courses that will ultimately benefit you in the long term effect of your future. If you jump into the first one, you may find that a different college had different benefits or courses, or ways of payment plans. Not to mention, instructors assistance that are available to you if you have a question or problem. Some colleges on the Internet do not offer such instructors or teachers. You have to mail them by the U.S mail or go to the college itself and this doesn’t help when your distance education was based on being able to use the Internet to obtain a degree in a course in the first place.

Putting the entire subject of distance education into perspective, go with a college that fits you, your individual purposes, and needs. Things like time frames, fees, training and other points of interest should all be taken into consideration. By keeping in mind that the distance education you want is for the purpose of giving you a better future or an opportunity of obtaining a better career or job.

There are some circumstances where financial assistance is available even for Internet distance educations, just as if there were tuition fees at a college you were actually going to attend and be in the classroom. You can find all of this information out, usually by simply reading the facts, and different areas on the college web site you are considering to use for an Internet distance education.

A career change, even at a late or sometimes seeming inopportune moment, can be beneficial to a worker. A good career to look into is teaching, though it requires specific skills. But after a course or two at a school, the worker is now fit to handle a teaching job, and for a change in location at any time in the future.

The profession of teaching is always in demand. After all, schools, colleges and universities cannot function without teachers. Future teachers can be found anywhere, at the workplace, in a savvy business room, or at the workshop, where trainees are taught to teach in preschools up to universities. A worker need not fear in switching to a teaching career, all the skills and ethics learned at work can be utilized in the classroom. And as they say, experience is the best teacher.

Teaching as a career is advantageous. One advantage is that teaching opens the worker to opportunities to move around in the country, and if lucky enough, even overseas. Switching careers to teach can be gainful for the worker. The change can lead the worker to a field where his/her previous employment has prepared and given him/her skills, ethics, and traits that can boost their chance at getting a good position in a teaching staff.

Experiences and life skills are vital. This becomes even more important once a worker moves to a teaching career, where communication is essential. As a teacher, horizons are widened, jobs become more available, and this can be the step to promotion and job contentment. A teaching skill or experience in one’s resume can be a bonus and can impress prospective employers. Skills and traits learned at the workplace are assets too, especially so as you teach these to other students.

A worker with teaching skills is a step closer to a promotion or a better paying job. Most companies and work environments work in teams and a teaching skill under one’s belt offer beneficial contributions to trainings and team building workshops. A teaching skill improves the chances of getting a better job and promotion. A career change to teaching is advantageous for both employer and employee. Even if the goal was not to really become a teacher, the training involved will make better future career changes, plus it gives the worker the chance to grow and learn new skills.

Effective communication and teaching skills plus the experience and capacity are good clues to look for if a workers plans to switch to a teaching career. The necessary skills offered at the workplace for a teacher such as reliability, initiative, independence, reading and writing skills and team leadership makes the shift from an old career to teaching even easier. This type of career change can broaden a resume and CV, and might be the road to job contentment and a pleasing lifestyle.

So much is made about the importance of learning styles and teaching methods. Here is a simplified breakdown of four basic learning styles and three basic modalities and my personal experience in using them.

***********************

“Work smarter, not harder.”

***********************

Various authors and researchers have come up with different names for the basic learning styles. In my opinion, this can cause more confusion for the layperson than it solves because terminology lacks standardization. The same basic learning style can have four or five different names, depending on how many different books you read.

The bottom line is there appears to be four basic styles and three basic modalities. The styles themselves read similar to personality traits and the modalities are the ways that information is transported to the brain. While other styles and modalities appear in books and research, they are, more often than not, combinations of the basic styles and modalities listed below.

Often a person will have some, but not necessarily all, of the traits from a learning style. In fact, it is not unusual for a person to display traits from more than one style. It’s also not unusual for a person to process information by more than one modality.

As parents or educators, all we really need is to realize that learning styles and modalities are tools; tools that we can use to help our children process information more efficiently. Have you ever heard the statement “work smarter, not harder”? This is how we can use an understanding of learning styles.

To make things simple, I’m going to number each style. The number has no significance beyond separating each definition.

Style One: learns by doing, doesn’t necessarily like deep thinking, is spontaneous; often creative; does not like sitting still looking at books; prefers games, competitions, short presentations.

Style Two: likes clear, structured, well organized tasks; wants everything done in order; wants “just the facts not opinions, thank you.” Enjoys textbooks and works well with traditionally styled curriculum; has to work at being creative, but it is not necessarily a chore; not naturally spontaneous, and tends to be cautious.

Style Three: is a problem-solver, self-motivated, analyzes things, often prefers logical subjects like math and science; works well independently; enjoys long-term projects. Seems to work well with organized lectures as part of their curriculum.

Style Four: is very social, maybe even a “social butterfly” type thriving on personal interaction with many different people. Interested in people, ideas and principles of a subject, not necessarily the events themselves. Has to work at organization. They are often vulnerable to conflict and criticism. “Why” is a very important question to them.

Those are the four basic learning styles, and I can tell you from experience with my own children, trying to pigeon-hole or tag a child with only one label or style just doesn’t work. However, finding out which style is most dominant can help us to tailor activities so that the child can make the most of their learning opportunities.

The modalities come into play when we try and figure out how to process the information for the learning style. The three most common are:

Visual: receives information best through visual stimulation (i.e., pictures, diagrams, reading)

Kinesthetic: receives information best through touch and hands-on activities (i.e., craft projects, cuisenaire rods, science labs)

Auditory: receives information best via “sound bytes” (i.e., lectures, songs, books on tape)

Take each of your children and find out which style and which modality is the most dominant. After you have decided which learning style description appears to suit them best, and by which modality they process information best, you can go look for a curriculum or learning opportunities that will suit their individual needs.

But don’t be surprised that what once worked “best” eventually no longer does. Children evolve and change as they grow. It is a good idea to re-evaluate their style ever so often, especially if you begin to see that they are having difficulties or begin to dislike a curriculum, resource, or activity that worked well previously.

On a personal level, I dislike labeling people. I have found that it can cause confusion and often lacks constructive results. However, understanding learning styles and modalities, though at first glance a kind of label, has actually helped me deliver learning opportunities to my children more efficiently with more constructive and long term results. While I may focus our efforts on one style or modality, I try and include activities that would suit other styles and modalities to help my children expand their areas of interest and talents and to help them exercise areas where they need more development to balance out their skills.

This handbook focuses on the use of feedback and evaluation forms to develop information about your teaching skills and style. Please recognize that evaluation and feedback forms are only part of an overall continuous <a rel="nofollow" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/article_exit_link');" rel="external nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://smpraq-bangil.com/" target="_self" title="SMP Roudlotul Aqoidi Bangil”>teaching improvement process. Other methods for obtaining useful feedback to improve your teaching include, but are not limited to: soliciting verbal feedback from your students, having your lecture videotaped, or arranging peer or supervisor class observation. These and other methods are briefly summarized in the Handbook, but the focus will be on the evaluation forms and resources to help you improve.

For those of you familiar with the Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle and other quality improvement principles, you will notice the framework described above reflects this same cycle:

PLAN: As a teaching assistant, you prepare classroom instruction.

DO: You teach the class or lead the discussion or lab.

CHECK: You evaluate your own performance. The evaluation process outlined in this Handbook can be used to accomplish this step. During the “Check” phase, you’ll discover things you do effectively, as well as opportunities for improvement.

ACT: To complete the cycle, you need to determine how to use the feedback and what steps you need to take to improve the teaching and learning associated with your class. The Resource Guide suggests books, articles, videotapes of past workshops, and future workshops.

At this point the process starts over. The concept is continuous improvement. As TA(Teaching Assistant) Fellows, we encourage you and all faculty to adopt a continuous improvement philosophy toward teaching. Note that once you have asked the students: “How can I improve?” they will expect you to improve, just as you expect them to learn.

In the spirit of continuous improvement and the environment of trust, accountability, and goodwill, the College of Engineering TA Fellows believe the following framework of feedback forms and corresponding resources will help TAs continuously improve undergraduate education in the College.

Evaluation and Improvement Process Overview

Fast Feedback
Several types of fast feedback exist, ranging from informal conversation with students to the use of fast feedback forms. Some forms are designed to be used on the first day of class, others are designed to be used after a few weeks of class, or at various times throughout the semester. The use of fast feedback forms is quite flexible. With fast feedback, you can familiarize yourself with your class and their expectations, and you can identify and correct simple problems in areas such as style, presentation, or facilities.

Mid-Semester Evaluations
Mid-semester is an ideal time to obtain feedback from your class to help you improve. At this point in the semester, students in your class or lab have been exposed to homework, exams, labs, projects, and your grading, and may have useful feedback on your teaching in these contexts. The objective is to attempt a midsemester correction that leads to high final quality performance indicated by the end-of-semester evaluations.

Classroom observation and TA evaluation by course supervisors is now required by the College of Engineering for all new TAs (first and second semester) by the seventh week. A sample mid-semester evaluation form is provided in this Handbook that you can provide to your course supervisor for this purpose. Even if you are not a new TA or if your department does not require it, you may wish to implement this step. Since all TAs are required by COE to be evaluated by their supervisor at the end of the semester, it isimportant that all TA’s be observed in a teaching situation at some point during the semester in order for thesupervisor to assess teaching performance appropriately.

End-of-Semester Evaluations

The end-of-the semester evaluation is generally not as flexible as the previous two steps. Most departments require the use of a particular, standardized end-of-semester student evaluation form. The purpose of this evaluation is two-fold: (1) to obtain an overview of your strengths and weaknesses throughout the semester so you may improve next semester, and (2) to provide a formal performance assessment so your department can both ensure high teaching standards, and in some cases, determine whether to reappoint you.

A standardization of the forms is necessary for fair TA assessment. The TA Fellows have spent considerable time developing an end-of-semester form specifically for TAs that combines the best aspects of the existing forms. Teaching evaluations have been separated from course evaluations, and distinction is made between laboratory and lecture/discussion environments. The Academic Planning Council will review the TA Fellows’ recommended forms in the Fall of 1994.

Advice for effective use of evaluations

· Give the evaluation forms out at the beginning of class
Giving the forms at the end of the lecture is an invitation for the students to rush through the form so they can leave sooner. Reserving time at the beginning of a class for evaluations shows that you are serious about receiving feedback and can lead to increased participation.
· Clearly state the purpose of the form
Honestly explaining exactly what the evaluation form will be used for and who sees it can lead students to provide the most useful information. For example, it might be useful to explain when a form will be seen only by the TA versus when the form will be analyzed by faculty or the department administration.
· Read the instructions aloud to your class
Quality of the feedback is ensured only if students fully understand the form. For example, you should clearly explain the “grading” scale on any form that has one. A score of “1″ may mean “excellent” on one type of form while it may mean “needs much improvement” on another. While the forms in this Handbook should be consistent in this respect, you must remember that students fill out forms for different departments and colleges all over campus.
· Review important comments from previous forms with the class
If a noteworthy point or issue is raised on a particular in-semester form, it may be helpful to specifically raise the issue during a subsequent class. This will show the students that you read the forms and that you are prepared to act on the information in them, or at least comment on the particular issue.
· Develop alternative questions and comments
You are strongly encouraged to develop your own evaluation forms to suit your needs and teaching style. Appendix II to this Handbook contains a list of alternative questions and comments that you might find useful in developing your own types of feedback or evaluation.

The first step in developing a realistic stress management plan is for people to know their personal tendencies. What works for them? What adds extra dis-stress? What is the most efficient way to approach things based upon how they learn and their personality. A learning style is a name for relatively consistent pattern of behavior showing how people learn or adapt to their environment. People are often a combination of more than one learning style, but one style usually predominates. Learning style is the way people prefer to learn. It does not have anything to do with how intelligent they are or what skills they have. There is no such thing as a “good” learning style or a “bad” learning style per se, and it is important for people to be aware of how their brain learns best in order to optimize their learning experiences.

Some environments cater more to one learning style than another. When this happens, people must know how to modify the situation to work best for them. Consider the last time you tried to learn a new computer program. Which method(s) work best for you: A) Reading the manual. B) Using the tutorial or just getting in and playing with it. C) Having someone tell you how to do it.

Another common example is getting directions. Do you find your way easiest by: A) Reading a map or written directions. B) You have to drive it to know how to get there or C) Having someone give you directions verbally (such as at a gas station). People who select “A” or “C” usually have a pretty good ability to visualize things in their head once they get the information. Their primary difference is the way the information is input–through their eyes or ears. People who select “B” are strong kinesthetic learners and benefit from actually doing things. There are three parts to the learning process: 1) cognition: how people acquire knowledge (seeing, hearing or doing), 2) conceptualization: how people process information (abstract, specific, memory pathways), and 3) affective: people’s motivation, decision-making styles, values and emotional preferences (how much does this information matter).

Learning styles (how people acquire knowledge can be conceptualized as auditory/hearing, visual/seeing, or kinesthetic/doing. . .

Tips for kinesthetic learners (learn by doing)

•	Paraphrase and write-down important point as you read/talk/listen. (This is especially important if someone is trying to communicate something complicated)

•	Manipulate the material through teaching or doing it whenever possible

•	Use skits or acronyms to remember important ideas

•	Volunteer to make posters or overheads for group presentations (or a training manual if you are learning a job)

•	Manipulate the information by making multiple choice tests for yourself or applying it in different situations

•	Try to relate it to something you already know how to do

Tips for auditory learners (learn by listening/hearing)

•	Read your material out loud whenever possible

•	Tape record your notes and listen to them while you drive, work Out etc.

•	Try to partner with a visual learner if you need to borrow notes

•	Listen attentively to lectures

•	Try to block out extra auditory (verbal) interruptions.

•	If possible, tape record the class so you do not have to worry about taking notes

•	Discuss any material you are learning with a friend

Tips for visual learners: (learn by seeing/reading)

•	When you read material, visualize it in your mind. Then, try to recite it from memory.

•	Pay close attention to charts, graphs or diagrams and make your own

•	You may find you “hear” better if people write you letters or memos

•	Rewrite your notes in a format which is easy to visualize and learn such as: outlining, color coding, underlining…

•	Take mental “pictures” of things that must be remembered

•	Use flash cards to learn and test yourself

•	Use visual memory tricks where possible: acronyms, “a friend is a friend to the end” is a way to remember how to spell the word friend

It's like a dvd package that comes with books, and can be used on tv. It claims it works because it tailors to the 7 learning styles of children instead of just the main three (audio, visual, literary).
thanks, but it was like a cartoon. kinda like muzzy, but not for foreign languages.

There are four main parts to the Honey and Mumford Learning Styles and just like any other theory, they are said to help all people, both children and adults, learn more effectively throughout their lifetime. If you think about your own learning style and then apply it to the way you understand and process information, you will learn much more easily and faster than ever before. Using your natural style of learning is important because it allows you to be who you truly are without any pretensions.

The Honey and Mumford learning styles are broken into four element- activists, reflectors, theorists and pragmatists. It probably sounds more complicated than it is, but it’s actually a very good way to determine how you learn and what you should or shouldn’t be doing to help yourself retain information.

The activist loves new experiences and likes to be involved in everything that they can be. They are very open minded and easily excited. They may love thinking up new ideas, but they hate seeing them through. They get bored easily and don’t tend to think of the consequences before they act. The activist might enjoy working in groups, but when it comes to sharing the spotlight, they refuse.

According to the Honey and Mumford learning styles, the activist best learns when they are in the middle of a new experience or helping to solve a new problem. They enjoy working with teams, no matter if it’s role-playing, team tasks or business games. The activist makes a good leader and they don’t mind being thrown right in the middle of a stressful task or an assignment.

The activist might have hard time learning when they have to listen to a long lecture or presentation. And, when the activist is on their own, without a group there to rely on, the activist may not realize their potential in reading, writing or thinking by themselves.

In the Honey and Mumford learning styles, the reflector is an observer, someone that collects information before coming to a conclusion. They think deeply before making a final decision.

The reflector learns the best when they can observe people and then review what they have learned at the end of the day. Also, they like to make reports and analyses about the information they have observed to help themselves process it better.

According to Honey and Mumford learning styles, the reflector doesn’t like to be a leader or have to worry about meeting a deadline.

Honey and Mumford learning styles say that the theorist likes to think through problems in a step by step manner and they tend to not be emotional in their thinking. They learn best when faced with complex situations and they like having to questions ideas and concepts.

The theorist does not learn best when they have to be in an emotionally charged situation or when they feel everyone around them has a different learning style than their own.

In the Honey and Mumford learning styles, the pragmatists like to try anything but are impatient with long discussions. They learn best when they are given techniques that can help them save time and when they are able to try out new techniques and give feedback. Pragmatists do not work well when there aren’t given guidelines or instructions or when don’t feel like there are advantages to what they are doing.
